We are looking to appoint a conductor for the Cranbrook Symphony Orchestra. The person we are looking for must have experience of orchestral conducting, lots of enthusiasm, and ambition to seek to improve the quality of our playing. We perform 2 concerts a year. Traditionally our winter concert has involved a more classical programme, with the summer concert being a much more ambitious affair with international soloists playing full scale romantic works. Recent soloists include Joanna Macgregor (Grieg piano concerto), Isata Kanneh-Mason (Beethoven’s 4th piano concerto) and 4 horn players (Schumann’s Konzertstuck for 4 horns and orchestra). Recent symphonies include Tchaikovsky’s 4th and Dvorak’s 8th symphonies. We have now performed 3 summer concerts in the magnificent Centenary Hall at Hemsted Park, Benenden. Our next concert programme in November at Cranbrook Parish Church is Mendelssohn’s Hebrides overture, Beethoven’s violin concerto and Haydn’s drumroll symphony with Fenella Humphreysplaying the solo violin, which is our last concert with Michael Hitchcock conducting. We rehearse every Monday night in term time from 7.30 to 9.30 in FlimwellVillage Hall. We pay a fee for each rehearsal and a fee for each concert.
We intend to hold auditions in January 2026. Thereafter we are likely to offer a probationary period for the successful candidate. We will pay a modest fee for the audition.
When making an application please send a CV and references from two orchestral players.
Applications by 31st October 2025. Please email your application to info@thecso.org.uk..
